Common Sense Rule #1
of Many: Wash Those Hands!

Call it science, call
it common sense. Fish have tongues and nostrils just
like humans, which goes to show they can taste just
about anything, including the acids and oils of the
human skin.
We have salt in our
plastics not just for weight, but also to
counter-act the PH levels on your hands. Do yourself
a favor before you head out on the water next time:
Wash your hands with water and a dash of salt. Or be
as OCD as we are and carry some salt water in your
tackle bag! Hope your line is tight and wet...Stankx
A basic rule that
should always be followed:
Have Confidence!
So many "Weekend
Anglers" just go out on the water and lay on the
trolling motor, making laps around a lake. Sure,
this will get you some fish here and there; but
having a little confidence in your pattern, your
lure, and your presentation will make a big
difference in your outing.
There
are so many facets to this confidence, but I will
only share a few with you today. First off, have
confidence in your pattern. Take a minute to
actually pay attention to the weather. What has
happened in the last 24-36 hours? Figure out the
basics of where the fish should be, relating to
cover and depth. Secondly, have confidence in the
lure you are throwing.
Have you caught fish on
this particular lake with that exact lure
before?Have you caught any fish with it, or has it
just been a cool looking lure that works for other
people, on other lakes?
When you only have so
many hours a week to fish, innovation should take a
back seat to filling the limit. Lastly, have a sure
feeling about every cast. A cast thrown haphazardly
into the drink is just a "hope there's something
there" kind of fishing. By having confidence in the
first two steps, you should know exactly where to
place your cast and the retrieve cadence to get the
fish to bite.
I cannot express this
more: Have confidence; if you think that it is a
perfect place for a fish to be sitting, then keep
repeating your presentation and fine tune it. Some
fish will not bite till the twenty-first cast. So
keep up the level of confidence, and keep up the
level of fishing. Thankx from Stankx.
Tip of the month:
Diversify this Season
Sure
you can head out to your favorite honey-hole and
cast your "go to" lure and easily catch a fish or
two. But ask yourself at the end of the day; Did I
become a better angler today? Did I learn something
new? Can I catch a fish at this spot with any other
lure or presentation?
Try a lure you are not confident in. Try different
different combinations (ie put a swimbait as trailer
on a swim jig). I know its painful to switch up from
the norm. Heck I personally have never caught a fish
on a spinner bait (CRAZY RIGHT). I feel its due to
the Kevin Van Dam era in my surrounding waters of
Michigan. Everyone and their brother pelt and still
pelt the waters here with them.
Till this day I still
have one tied on every time I head out for two
reasons; 1. When I do catch that first fish it will
be success from dedicated practice and 2. Its all
about practice, not perfection. The only way to
become a better angler is to tie it on and
chuck...and chuck it...and chuck it.
